TOEFL measures the ability of nonnative speakers of English to use and understand North American English as it is used in college and university settings. Yes, they will all accept TOEFL but many would prefer IELTS
The test is offered via the internet (Internet based test or IBT) in most countries once a month. Registration needs to be completed at least one month before the intended date for taking the test.
The test can taken at thousands of location around the world but if you are unsure about where to go and how register please contact us as your local GetSet Centre will be able to advise you.
You can retake the test at least 7 working days after taking the previous test as many times as you like.
3-5 passages from academic tests approximately 700 words long
12-14 questions per passage
Score scale 0-30
4-6 lectures, some with classroom discussion, each 3-5 minutes long, 6 questions each
2-3 conversations, each 3 minutes long, 5 questions for each
2 independent – express an opinion on a familiar topic.
4 integrated tasks – speak based on what is read or heard
Score scale is 0-4 which is converted to a 0-30 scale
1 integrated task – write based on what is read or heard
1 independent task –support an opinion on a topic
Score scale 0-5 which is converted to a 0-30 scale
Total score is 0-120
Reading 60-100 minutes
Listening 60-90 minutes
Speaking 20 minutes
Writing 50 minutes (20 mins for integrated task and 30 mins for independent task)
Scores appear on online 15 working days after completion of the test. Test results are also posted to you.
