Why get a bachelor’s degree from a UK university?

How long does it take to get a degree?

Undergraduate degree courses normally last three years, but in some cases can be longer. Many language degrees involve a year abroad. Some degrees are ‘sandwich’ courses, which offer a one-year break, normally between the second and final year, giving you the opportunity to apply what you have learned out in the real world.

When does the academic year start and finish?

The academic year runs from late September/early October until June, usually with a month off at Christmas and Easter (March-April).

What kinds of bachelor’s qualifications are available?

The more common bachelor degrees include the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in languages, arts and social sciences, the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in scientific-based subjects and the Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) for technical and engineering related fields. What are the entry requirements?

The minimum entry requirements vary because each institution sets its own admission criteria and because the requirements are different depending upon which programme and subject major you want to enrollin. General requirements are specified in terms of A-levels. Senior high school graduates from outside the UK can take a one year Foundation Programme or a two-year A-level programme in the UK. In addition, you must have either IELTS 6.0/6.5 or iBT TOEFL 80-100 .

Can I get university accommodation?

First year undergraduate students from overseas are guaranteed accommodation at all British universities if the accommodation is applied for early enough, the deadline is usually before the end of July. Accommodation is usually in halls of residence on campus or a short distance from the university. Halls of residence can be either self-catering or catering. Students will have their own single study bedrooms, most universities have en-suite rooms available otherwise rooms are usually in clusters of five or six with students sharing bathroom and shower facilities. Kitchens in self-catering halls are usually shared by five or six students.
